Open doors + special guest: studio Hendriksen

De Monsterkamer hosts an Open Doors + Special Guest event every two months. Invited guest for the next session on April 7th is Chantal Hendriksen (1978), founder of studio Hendriksen, an Amsterdam-based graphic design studio.

  • Date: 07/04/2016
  • Time: 17:00 - 20:00
  • Location: De Monsterkamer
  • Speaker: Chantal Hendriksen
  • Costs: Free

The studio’s projects evolve from a deep affinity with contemporary art, which manifests itself in collaborations with art institutes, museums, galleries, individual artists and photographers as well as a wide range of self-initiated projects. The studio seeks to challenge the profession’s autonomy in its inter-disciplinary collaborations, with all its projects characterized by a conceptual and experimental approach.

During her presentation at De Monsterkamer, Chantal Hendriksen will talk about inspirations, reference points, the diverse roles of a designer and how this influences the design process. Plus, she’ll present an exclusive sneak preview of prints for a new series of scarves (12!) for AKXVIII.

Chantal Hendriksen studied graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and received her MA degree at Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem. The studio is a continuation of her former successful collaboration with Marijke Cobbenhagen. Hendriksen is the initiator and co-founder of art magazine ‘You Are Cordially Invited’. Complementary to her practice, Chantal is also active as a teacher at the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague and has taught at the HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht and California College of Arts in San Francisco, among others. The combination of different roles is an essential part of Studio Hendriksen’s practice.

Recents projects include designs for De Hallen Haarlem, Frans Hals Museum, Oude Kerk, Amsterdam Art /Amsterdam Art Weekend, Dürst Britt & Mayhew gallery and AKXVIII.
