On the first Thursday of every second month De Monsterkamer organises an Open doors + special guest. This time we have invited the art editor and writer Roos van der Lint (1985).
- Date: 01/09/2016
- Time: 17:00 - 20:00
- Location: De Monsterkamer
- Speaker: Roos van der Lint
- Costs: Free
In her lecture, Roos van der Lint will discuss the role of art books and artists’ books in the digital age. In June of this year, Het boek in de kunst – Een provocatie van de tijd (The book in art – A provocation of time) was published. The publication is the 11th in a series of essays commissioned by the Mondriaan Fund. While writing this essay she discovered that a new generation of ‘digital’ artists in particular have started to make books on a large scale. She also put together a small exhibition of art books at the Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (Amsterdam Public Library). This exhibition can be seen until the end of September.
As an art editor and writer on contemporary art, Roos van der Lint follows developments in the art world closely and is particularly interested in artists’ research into the possibilities of new media. Her long pieces in De Groene Amsterdammer also allow her the opportunity to investigate the social functions of art. For example, she recently travelled to Athens for a piece about the first exhibition by Ai Weiwei in Greece and the artworks that he has made about the refugee crisis. While she enjoys writing contemplative articles devoted to art that will not always be known to readers, she also reports on major art events such as Manifesta, Sonsbeek and the Venice Biennale. In 2013 Veen Media published Waarom ik kunst maak (Why I make art), a collection of interviews with international artists including Maurizio Cattelan, Adel Abdessemed and Mark Manders.
Roos van der Lint has been part of the editorial team at De Groene Amsterdammer as art editor since January 2014. She previously studied art history in Leiden, pursued internships at institutions including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and has visited art events worldwide. She has worked as an editor at the magazine Kunstbeeld and as a freelance writer on contemporary art for various art magazines including Museumschrift, Metropolis M and ArtReview. In 2012 she won the Prijs voor de Jonge Kunstkritiek (Award for Young Art Criticism) in the ‘essay’ category, an award intended to stimulate a new generation of art critics and essayists. In 2015 she was nominated for the first edition of the International Awards for Art Criticism.
The lecture will be in Dutch. Registration for the event is not necessary. You are welcome to join us for dinner afterwards at Studio/K at your own costs. Looking forward to seeing you on September the 1st!
