Open doors + special guest: Rob van Hoesel
Every first Thursday of the month De Monsterkamer organises an Open Doors + special guest event. This time we invited Rob van Hoesel from The Eriskay Connection, a studio for book design and an independent publisher of photobooks, artbooks and research projects.
- Date: 06/04/2017
- Time: 17:00 - 20:00
- Location: De Monsterkamer
- Speaker: Rob van Hoesel
- Organiser: Philip Stroomberg and Justina Nekrašaitė
- Costs: Free
During his presentation at the Open Doors + special guest at De Monsterkamer, Van Hoesel will discuss the role that paper plays in bringing across stories or concepts, the use of text in photo books and his views on certain practical matters related to the printing process. He will show some examples of recent books and will bring along some dummies of works in progress.
Rob van Hoesel has won several awards for his book designs, including a silver and bronze medal from “Die Schönste Bücher aus aller Welt” (The Best Book Design from all over the World) and a golden medal from the European Design Awards. His work has also regularly received awards from “De Best Verzorgde Boeken” (The Best Dutch Book Designs).
Van Hoesel loves art projects that flirt with science, and is particularly interested in projects that highlight a relevant subject, offer insights into the world around us, tell a story, make a statement, reveal a history or help define how we see the future.

Rob van Hoesel (Tilburg, 1974) studied graphic design at AKV St. Joost in Breda and graduated in 2002. He subsequently worked at Kummer & Herrman in Utrecht and started his own design studio at the end of 2005. Van Hoesel designs books, campaigns and visual identities for clients in the cultural field. His work is characterised by a conceptual approach, an editorial attitude to design and a clear design language with particular attention for typography. His love of book design led to the founding of The Eriskay Connection in 2011, a studio for book design and an independent publisher of photo books, art books and research projects.
The lecture will be in Dutch, but we can switch to English if required. You are welcome to join us for dinner afterwards at Studio/K at your own costs. Looking forward to seeing you on April 6th!
