Open doors + special guest: Loes Schepens (Eindeloos)
Graphic designer Loes Schepens (1964) has been working together with Vivienne van Leeuwen for the last 20 years under the collaborative label Eindeloos (Endless). Since 2007, Eindeloos has also entered into independent publishing in the field of art and culture: producing distinct, self-initiated publications which demonstrate a great passion and craftsmanship. Their point of departure has always been making books with beautiful paper and with an eye for detail.
- Date: 07/05/2015
- Time: 17:00 - 20:00
- Location: De Monsterkamer
- Speakers: Loes Schepens, Vivienne van Leeuwen
- Costs: Free
During her presentation in De Monsterkamer, Loes Schepens will speak about her experiences of commissioning the production of a special paper variety for a book, of her odyssey across international paper factories in search for nine sorts of paper for nine existing coloured covers in one sheath. She will also reflect on how to make a cover for a 5 metre broad roll of felt.
Loes Schepens has designed the catalogues of the Holland Paper Biennale during 14 years. Besides being exemplary for their choice of special binding techniques and the inclusion of rare materials, these prize-winning catalogues contain many different types of paper. It is such publications that challenge printers and binders toward tour de force technical accomplishments.
Eindeloos has undertaken commissions from several cultural organisations, including the Mauritshuis, theatre company Toneelgroep De Appel, literary festival Writers Unlimited, cultural heritage foundation Haags Industrieel Erfgoed and the gallery Maurits van der Laar. Characteristic elements of their works are: colourful and strong photographic or illustrative images. Their style can be described as a no-nonsense, tongue-in-cheek one. Their recent book Geest van Papier (The Spirit of Paper) is currently being exhibited in Museum Gouda in an exhibition featuring the thirty best designed books of this century.
The lecture will be held in Dutch. Registration for the event is not required. Afterwards you can join us for dinner at Studio/K (at your own costs). We look forward to seeing you on May 7th.
The activities program of De Monsterkamer is supported by Creative Industries Fund NL.
