Open doors + special guest: Hansje van Halem
Every first Thursday of the month De Monsterkamer organises an Open Doors + special guest event. This time we invited Hansje van Halem.
- Date: 06/02/2014
- Time: 17:00 - 20:00
- Location: De Monsterkamer
- Speaker: Hansje van Halem
- Costs: Free
Hansje works as an independent graphic designer specialised in book design and typography. During the Open Doors she will speak about paper as a starting point for design, about how a paper choice may sometimes conflict with other interests and how her pattern designs have helped her build up an awesome collection of endpapers.
Hansje van Halem (Enschede, 1978) is an independent graphic designer in Amsterdam. She works on books, identities and other printed matter. Her most well-known work is for TNT Post for whom she designed business stamps as shown below (2007 and 2010).
She also made a name for herself by starting a home gallery in her living room: Schrank8 (www.schrank8.blogspot.com). She invites designers/artists for a solo exhibition in a ’30-s vitrine cabinet.
In her spare time Hansje draws alphabets. In 2013 her experiments, sketches, failures and (never) applied letter and pattern designs were compiled in ’Sketchbook – Hansje van Halem’ (Uitgeverij de Buitenkant).
